About Charles River Community Health. We are the only community health center for the 168,000 residents of Allston-Brighton, Watertown, and Waltham. We serve as an indispensable resource in our community. Our patients are largely immigrants from Central and South America, the Caribbean, Asia and Africa; from the local Muslim community; and from the local LGBTQ community. Before coming to us, many had never received basic services, such as health screenings or dental care. In 2020, 94% lived at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. Most are on Medicaid or other subsidized public insurance (43%), or are uninsured (35%). Sixty percent of patients receive services in a language other than English. It is critical that we maintain staffing and program capacity, continue to deliver excellent holistic clinical care that is needed to minimize the spread of COVID-19, deliver essential care to our patients, protect our patients, staff, and community — and address the very real health inequities stemming from COVID-19.
